Pasilla de Oaxaca Pepper

Yum. Deep, earthy and smokey flavor with berry undertones. Yes, I hate myself for saying berry undertones.  Similar to a habenero taste which wasn’t expected. Not as mild as anticipated, especially when I’m telling people “this pepper isn’t spicy” before they try it.

Generally grown in the Sierra Mixe in Oaxaca, Mexico. The color is definitely of interest. Parts of the placenta are red and orange on the inside. A dark reddish brown on the outside. Looks like an Aji Panca and tastes close to them. A very underground pepper and slightly jewelwave. As a side note, why in the flock does this pepper have intestines?
